Seeing their writing come to life on the stage can be an eye-opener for the playwright and a learning experience as they work together with the directors and witness the audience reaction. The audience watched and listened, laughed, they cried and applauded at workshop well done.

Move Over, Mrs. Markham

By Admin | Filed in Announce

The Hand to Mouth Players in conjunction with YCP TheaterWorks will present the zany farce, MOVE OVER, MRS. MARKHAM by Ray Cooney and John Chapman. The play was presented at the Van Cortlandtville School Theatre on Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 29, 30, Nov 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 8 pm and on Sundays, Oct. 31 and Nov. 7 2010 at 2 pm.

This comic British romp, directed by Kathy Colonna, is chock full of all the key elements of farce: misunderstandings, jumping to conclusions, secrets, mistaken identities and confusion. The play is set in a very elegant London flat whose owners, Mr. and Mrs. Markham are played by Dick Smith and Jacqueline Smith. He is a straight-laced publisher of children's books, whose office partner (Gary Simon) would like to borrow his apartment for the evening to 'entertain' his latest girlfriend.

At the same time Mrs. Markham has been persuaded by her friend (Evelyn Voura) to let her borrow the apartment so she can entertain her lover (Martin Posner). What nobody knows is that the Markham's interior designer, (Jerry Quinn) who has been decorating the apartment for the past three months has decided that this was the night he and the au pair (Stacy Salmeri) will try out the new designer bed! How's this for the start of chaos and bedlam? Let us not fail to mention some side-splitting laughs.

Rounding out the cast are Phyllis Kirigin who plays a writer of children's books seeking a new publisher who doesn't go in for sex and Michele Smail as the telephone operator with a particularly 'sexified' soothing voice.

Director Kathy Colonna, an HTM member since 1987, has directed Radio Plays, Steel Magnolias, Missing Molly, Run for Your Wife, Come Blow Your Horn, Mame, Peter Pan and several one-acts for HTM's award-winning Playwright-Director Workshop. She has performed in many HTM plays over the years as well.

The Hand-to-Mouth Players & YCP Theaterworks

announce auditions for

MOVE OVER, MRS. MARKHAM

by Ray Cooney and John Chapman.

The auditions will be held at two locations: Reformed Church of Cortlandtown, 2124 Albany Post Rd, Montrose, NY on Sunday, August 29th 2010 at 2:00 pm and Tuesday, August 31st 2010 at 7:30 pm.  There will also be  one night of auditions at the Van Cortlandtville School Theater, Route 6, Mohegan Lake (opposite the Cortlandt Town Center Mall) on Thursday, September 2nd 2010 at 7:30pm.

In this wonderful British farce, Philip Markham, a publisher of children's books, is asked by his business partner, Henry Lodge, if he can borrow the flat for the evening to gallivant with his latest girlfriend. As Philip and his wife will be out, he reluctantly agrees. At the same time, Joanna Markham is being persuaded by Linda Lodge, to let her borrow the empty flat in order to entertain her lover. With some misgivings, Joanna agrees. What nobody knows is that the interior designer who has been decorating the flat for the past three months has decided that this is the night that he and the au pair will try out the new bed. When the Markham’s evening out is cancelled, it is too late to let any of the parties know, and three sets of hopeful lovers all converge on the bedroom at the same time. The situation is further complicated by the arrival of Olive Harriet Smythe, a straight-laced authoress of children's books. The frantic efforts of the Markhams to hide the amorous goings-on and, at the same time, sign up Miss Smythe, lead to a fun and hysterical evening.

Five women, ages 18 to 80, and four men, ages 20-60, are needed for the cast of this hilarious play.  Performances are scheduled for a late-October to mid-November run.  For further information, contact director Kathy Colonna at kathy.colonna@htmplayers.com or call 845-528-0232. www.HTMPlayers.com
